Itch.io is a website for users to host, sell and download indie games. Released in March 2013 by Leaf Corcoran, the service hosts nearly 100,000 games and items as of February 2018.

I love this game! I got all 4 endings and played for an hour. I also discovered some new dialog that I didn't notice when I first played through. The art style has a soft feel to it so you wouldn't really expect what's to come. I'll for sure check out the other games. The itch.io app, itch, lets you effortlessly download and run games and software from itch.io.All of your downloads are kept in a single place and are automatically updated. Access your collections and purchases, or browse for new games. Shag the Hag is my first game. It broke my cherry, so to speak. With this game, I have tried to use as many random elements as possible. I thought this would make even repetitive tasks somewhat more interesting. As such, much of the dialogue is random and in some cases, no two adventures would be the same.

Itch.io also allows users to host game jams, events where participants have limited time (usually 1–3 days) to create a game. Game Off and Game Maker's Toolkit Game Jam have been hosted on Itch.io.

History[edit]

On 3 March 2013, Leaf Corcoran posted a blog entry to the site leafo.net detailing what the website would be about, with a pay-what-you-want model. In an interview with Rock, Paper, Shotgun, Corcoran said the original idea was not a store but instead a place to 'create a customized game homepage'.[4] Its name comes from a spare domain that Corcoran had purchased a couple of years prior.[1]

As of June 2015, the service hosted over 15,000 games and programs.[5]

Itch

In December 2015, the service announced the release of a desktop application for installing games and other content, as well as keeping existing games and content updated automatically. It was released with simultaneous support for Windows, macOS, and Linux.[6] Today, the Itch app is recommended as 'the best way to play your itch.io games'.[7]

In support of the George Floyd protests, Itch.io organized the Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality in June 2020.[8] It initially launched with over 700 games, but increased to over 1500 as additional developers offered to contribute.[9][10] In 11 days, the bundle raised $8.1M for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and Community Bail Fund.[11][12]

Revenue[edit]

The developer can charge money for the games they release onto the platform, and in May 2015, Itch.io paid developers US$51,489.[5] By default, the site takes a 10% cut from each sale,[13] but the developer can choose how much money the site will get per purchase.[14] The developer can set the lowest price for the game (including free), and the customer can pay above that minimum amount if they like the game they are purchasing.[15]

A downloadable game for Windows and macOS

An insomniac ventures into the nearby woods at night and discovers its lonely female occupants live under the curse of a crazed Necromancer. Unfortunately, there’s only one way he’ll be able to lift the curse and be with the women he loves. He’ll need to Shag the Hag…

Shag the Hag is my first game. It broke my cherry, so to speak.

With this game, I have tried to use as many random elements as possible. I thought this would make even repetitive tasks somewhat more interesting. As such, much of the dialogue is random and in some cases, no two adventures would be the same.

I’ve always believed that any good game, as much as any good story, depends on strong characters. So, my main focus in this game was to create memorable characters who inspire the player to continue their play-through and get involved in the story as much as the erotic elements.

I also experimented with a basic stats system which drives some of the minimum requirements, however I tried to keep these as simple as possible so players wouldn’t have to do the same action over and over too many times. I wanted the story to take control more than the game.

Reviews for the game have been overwhelmingly positive and you can read some of them and the comments on F95Zone in the Official Thread. The common theme to the good comments was the love of the characters, especially Nakita the Zombie.

I was very flattered by the reception and it has driven me to take on board all the compliments and (thankfully minor) criticism to feel more confidant in what I was originally trying to achieve. I hope, then, that my next game will be just as interesting!

How

This game was very fun. Although I do wish there was more story to the jogger and the hobo. I wanted those stories to progress.

the hobo is a confirmed character for the sequel. :)

there will be a different jogger in the sequel with more story, too. :)

Does this game actually have sex scenes? Just wondering before I give it a go.
